Hello everyone,
There is a record for a William Henry ANFIELD who Enlisted: 31 May 1901, Pretoria
Age: 31, Height: 5 ft 7½, Eyes: Grey, Complexion: Fair
Marks: Anchor on left wrist
Wife: Mrs WH Anfield, Post Office, Durban

I thought this may have been my Great Grandfather but upon further investigation I found this -

ANFIELD William Henry, Trooper No. 19368 (Sp.Sq): Born Leeds, UK. He served as Trooper No. 587 in E Squadron, 8th Rhodesia Regiment, and as No. 721 in the Southern Rhodesian Volunteers. He also served previously as Trooper No. 20 in 1st Kitchener’s Fighting Scouts, enlisting at Durban on 4th December 1900. He transferred to the 2nd Regiment on 29th April 1901. Enlisted in SH at Durban on 3rd February 1902 – age 32, carpenter, height 5’ 7½”, grey eyes. NOK: Wife, Mrs Anfield, Durban.

I am now not sure whether he is the right person as my Great Grandfather was born in Pietermaritzburg. He was married and his wife was in Durban/Pietermaritzburg area at the time and as far as I am aware he wasn't a carpenter but worked on the railways. Is there any attestation papers for him which may give more details.

If anyone can assist me I would be very grateful

Many thanks
Rob
