I am seeking help to answer an old mystery.

In 1969, Spink offered this group to George Bridges:

The KSA is very unusual. I cannot find it listed on any roll.

This later image from the IWM shows him wearing his DSO and QSA ribbons.

He received his DSO from the King in October 1901 so perhaps he felt he need the KSA to show his service in South Africa?

Just checking - so Spink, in their write-up, make no mention of a number or any other details of the R.F.A. outfit. My first instinct is to say that this was a renamed medal which is why they were unable to divulge any further particulars. If the above scenario is accurate, I doubt you will ever find who the KSA was originally issued to.

Having looked at the nominal roll where Bridges was struck off in May 1900, I am inclined to think that he didn't qualify for and wasn't eligible for a KSA (insufficient service)? I can't track him down with any other outfit, Imperial or Colonial.

Rory

Interestingly, "Boer War Services of Military Officers" shows him as being "late lt., Imperial Yeomanry". I had a quick look on my IY CD but no "G.Bridges" there commissioned or otherwise.

Thank you both.

I had not seen mention of the IY before, IL.

It seems his KSA was a self-award. It is strange to think that a DSO and a Mafeking siege survivor was not thought sufficient.
