Somewhere on this forum is featured a lonely Natal (Bambatha) Medal with 1906 clasp to FJT Brandon of the Natal Carbineers. A mere four years before he was awarded that medal, he was embroiled in the Boer War - on the wrong side of it for a British Subject. I recently came into his typed statement, taken before his treason trial and thought I would share it with readers. He didn't deem it prudent to claim his ABO medal when these were authorised in 1921. I also include an extract from a document in the Natal Archives, compiled by the C.I.D. of the Natal Police, detailing the sentence each Natal Rebel got -only the page relevant to Brandon is supplied here. I hope you find it interesting.
