Dear Forum members, I would appreciate your thoughts on the two pieces of information I have posted above.

Could it be possible that Private 5219 Charles Tiffany of the 2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers was one of the several men who went out to defend the train on the 27th August 1901 near Alkmaar? As always, your expertise and knowledge would be very much appreciated.

Best regards

Dave,

As 3626 Corporal B. Knowles, 2505 Corporal W. Gallon [Gallen/Galon] and 5219 Private C. Tiffany, were all members of the same battalion and were engaged with the enemy on the same day at the same location, it certainly seems likely they all belonged to the band of volunteers referred to.

Hi Dave,

I agree with Neville; it makes sense that they were all from the same battalion and the same location is referenced. That's highly likely in my books.

It looks like it was a severe wound as he was discharged medically unfit as a result; enjoy the rest of the research.

Wonder why Tiffany did not get mentioned in despatches as well?

2 possibilities spring to mind,
1. He was wounded early on in the defense action thus no great participation or
2. The usual " out of sight out of mind" situation where he had been removed from the Bn due to his injuries and as such was not thought of in the recommendation.

Regards

Simon
