Could I have suggestions as to the unit 1 LD on this Lee Metford bayonet issued in 1895?

Rob,

I think it might be the 1st (City of London) Battalion, London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers).

LD (or L’D) being an abbreviation for London.

Some of these men saw action in South Africa as part of a composite volunteer active service company, composed of members of the 1st, 2nd & 3rd VB’s Royal Fusiliers.
