Hello Martin
Your Great Grandfather Henry's attestation papers do not have any reference to a wounding in action. However, sometimes soldiers records did not always record why they were returned home. Henry was in South Africa for around five and a half months and was deemed medically unfit for further service. He was discharged from the Dragoons in 1901 having been returned to England in February 1900. His return home may have been due to disease, accident or indeed a combat wound. Unfortunately his papers do not specify exactly why he was Invalided. On return to England he would have been taken to a hospital for treatment and rehabilitation.
Sometimes there are medical records and discharge notes but I have not found anything as of yet.
If he went on to serve in WW1? there maybe further papers available which sometimes record previous service and medical notes. One other observation I noticed was that Henry served in Egypt and India before he went to South Africa. It could be possible he had a reoccurring ailment or enteric fever which can be brought on by poor sanitation / poor water supply and extreme weather conditions.
If you have access to archive newspapers, there could be references to soldiers who returned home from the conflict in local newspapers which maybe of help.
His death in 1941 was recorded as being from acute bronchitis, chronic rheumatoid / osteoarthritis and Parkinson's disease.
