How would you transcribe the second given name of his brother? - for the first I would say "Olans" and the second "Hans" - the correct answer is "Olaus". Mind in the second case the "pesky" person was the army clerk who filled out the form, he also wrote Bernard rather than Bernhard.

Both documents relate to their father, a Major in the 50th Regiment of Foot, applying for a child allowance of £20 per annum for each of them. Bernhard's elder brother was named after his father who was also John Olaus Moller. As you can see from the above Bernhard was born on 31st January 1854. His father died on 20th December 1854 and his death occupied a fair bit of space in the Weekly Dispatch of 25th February 1855. This is the last fifth of the article:
