While besieged in Mafeking, Captain Charles FitzClarence, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), wrote in his diary [NAM 2013-05-10] on 30 April 1900, "The Boer commander Eloff [sent word] this morning to challenge us to a game of cricket next Sunday and B.P. cleverly answered that we couldn’t be bothered playing them as we are still “200 not out” referring to the number of days besieged which is 200 today."

This is the first mention I have seen to a proposed or actual sporting event during the war between the two sides. It would be quite helpful to know if there were others you know of. Thanks.
