Captain AWM Atthill, 2nd Volunteer Battalion, Norfolk Regt., was given command of the 2nd Norfolk Volunteer Service Company in March 1901. He later wrote From Norwich to Lichtenburg which was published in 1909. He is not listed in this site's soldier's records. Is there a protocol to add names or someone to contact? Thanks

Hello,

You are correct that there is not a complete list of names of participants on this site.

I am responsible for adding names. If you have information you can email it to me or post it here and I will add it in the next round of uploads.

Best wishes
David

Hi, Mr Atthill is a very interesting chap, and someone I have studied for a very long time, should you wish to know more about, please do ask. Thanks.

Norfolk News 30 October 1909

Norfolk News 21 August 1915

A name search on this site for Atthill comes up with LIEUTENANT CYRIL P ATTHILL of the 37th Battalion of the IY (which I think makes him a third waver). A newspaper report I came across indicated he was the son of A W M Atthill.

Just for the record his full name was ANTHONY WILLIAM MAUNSELL ATTHILL.

Born 1861 in Norwich, died 1926 in Hertfordshire (think he's buried in Bushey Cemetery)

1891 Census (apparently before he joined the army) he was listed as an "Electrical Engineer's accountant" living in Heigham, Norfolk

June 1921 Census - staying in the Marlborough Hotel, Felixstowe when he gave his occupation as Secretary of the National Institute for the Blind (The RNIB became Royal in 1949).

He gets lots of mentions in the newspapers through his work with Veteran's Associations.

Cyril P was definitely his son. I wonder if Cyril's third wave IY unit was one of those to arrive in SA once it was all over as I cannot find him on a medal roll. Later in life he emigrated to Australia where he died.
