Dear forummers
The level of scholarship on this site continues to excel.
This got me thinking that many of the topics have been so well researched that they are eminently suitable to publish in a journal. I know that, rather than being difficult, editors of military history journals are often thirsty for new material.
And I, for one, would always be happy to proof read and advise others who are undertaking an article.
So... the aim of this thread is to provide the details of journals which would likely welcome articles on the ABW.
Please contribute your suggestions - I will start with
The South African Military History Society: Military History Journal. Published bi-annually, in June and December
Previously published articles: samilitaryhistory.org/journal.html
Instructions for authors: samilitaryhistory.org/guideaut.html
The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.

Rob,

That is an excellent idea.

Another route may be the OMRS for people who are members there.

Another alternative is for us to create our own journal as the ABW Philatelic Society do?

Best wishes
David

I do like the idea of our own. How interesting.

Terrific idea Rob. As you say there are a number of scholarly forummers with such an in-depth knowledge of many aspects of the conflict. It would be a great way of informing the wider public of a largely overlooked period of history. Plus, the majority of any papers submitted could be peer reviewed 'in house' if this practice is academically acceptable for publication.
The concept of our own journal would also be a beneficial investment of effort and resources as intimated by David.
Those of us who are not the product of an academic background strive to improve our research and writing inspired by fellow forummers. Indeed, many of the biographical posts on individual soldiers (Rory), tribute items (Neville), Boer War ephemera outside the medals (Everhard), general research (Smethwick, Dave F), firearms (Rob D)..... I could go on and on, are a template for reporting.
Here lies an opportunity to expand the knowledge of the ABW Forum, which I for one think should not be squandered!
