Verney's papers can be found at the National Army Museum, and some of his correspondences were published in 1989 by David Verney, as The Joyous Patriot: The Correspondence of Ralph Verney 1900-1916. London: Leo Cooper, 1989. Can someone please add him to the database? Thanks

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_Ralph_Verney,_...net,_of_Eaton_Square

His Officer Records can be found on Find My Past which show his South Africa service dates were 25 March 1900 to 25 September 1902, his QSA Medal was adorned with 4 clasps - Laing's Nek, Belfast, Orange Free State & Cape Colony and his KSA Medal bore both date clasps.

Another record on FMP shows he spent 22 days in the summer of 1915 in a military hospital owing to appendicitis.

This link gives the history of the Verney family & their home, Claydon House - from which you will realise Ralph would have known Florence Nightingale'. His father definitely referred to her as Aunty Flo, whether Ralph was allowed to call her Great Aunty Flo I cannot say.

I was once persuaded to attend a meeting at which Sir Ralph's son came under fire for his management of the Claydon estate regarding wildlife.

Edit - I have just downloaded the Kindle Edition of The Joyous Patriot for the sum of £0.99 pence.

I have not had time to get far into The Joyous Patriot but I have already learnt that Ralph used to call Florence Nightingale "Godmother".
