If you are not already aware of them, there are two books available on the carvings to be found on Mausers:

a) "CARVINGS from the VELDT" Rifle carvings from the Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902 (Pub. 2004)

b) "CARVINGS from the VELDT - Part Two" Rifle carvings from the Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902 (Pub. 2008)

These books do not only feature M95 Boer Mauser rifles, but also many other models of rifles, carbines and pistols used by both sides - the Boer forces, as well as British and Colonial troops.
There are 'carvings' and 'engravings' are mostly names of Boers and Colonial troops, but also include names of their Commandos, the battles they fought in , the ZAR and OVS Coats of Arms and other decorations. Many colonial units, as well as British regimental names and badges are carved onto the stocks of captured Boer rifles, as well as British Lee-Metford and Lee-Enfield rifles and carbines.
The Boers of course used other rifles such as; Martini-Henry's, Guedes, Mannlichers, as well as captured British Martini-Enfields, Lee-Metfords and Lee-Enfields. There is also a chapter on handguns, such as the C96 Mauser 'Broomhandle' pistol, Webleys and Colts. All these handguns feature the engraved names of Boers and Colonial soldiers. Photos to follow.

Also a chapter on the Medals awarded to both British and Boers and a chapter which outlines the quantities of captured Boer rifles that were sent to the 'Colonies' as "War Trophies" -

Two new chpaters on Boer War Re-enactors in six countries, as well as Boer War "Trench Art" and POW carvings. Fascinating service histories of Boers, British & Colonial soldiers - including rifles used by 4 Boer Generals.
