I have a lot of biographical information about Painton-Jones (sometimes unhyphenated), including from his Great War Personal Record (KIA 15/9/1916), but I wonder if anyone can help regarding his service in South Africa? He was a sergeant in the 9th Imperial Yeomanry and was discharged in Johannesburg in 1902. He stayed in South Africa, marrying in Pretoria in November 1905, but I don't know how long he remained there.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thank you.

Good morning and welcome to this forum,
You may find the attestation paper for 8396 Private T E P Jones 9th Battalion 49th Company Imperial Yeomanry at the TNA Kew in WO128, almost all of which is available on line.
In addition he is also shown in WO100/124 page 83 in respect of his QSA and clasps, which include Wittebergen, a note in the remarks column "Still serving South Africa"
Again, welcome and good luck with your research,
Regards Frank

Actually I've just noticed he has two further entries in WO100, serves me right for going off "half cocked" without coffee, a lovely pair of medals for the Boer War! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Supplementary roll in WO100/124 page 89! :)

And, WO100/357 page 73, this latter is really nice, moreover, it is also quite scarce to see! :woohoo:

A pleasure, Mike.
Do you actually have his medals, the KSA is really nice in particular and quite a scarce medal to see these days.
