On clearing out my nan's house, I have found a Boer War medal awarded to Boy I. Hatten of the Welsh Regiment and would love to find out more about him. Any ideas?

The QSA medal roll shows 6095 Boy I. Hatton (sic) entitled to the medal with clasps Cape Colony, Orange Free State & Transvaal. The KSA roll shows 6095 Boy J. Hatton (sic) with the entry 'No Medal' and in the remarks column 'Forfeits medal. Convicted by F.G.C.M. 21/10/01'. (F.G.C.M.=Field General Court Martial).

Interestingly the same page of the KSA medal roll shows the same comments against the name of 6096 Boy J. Henderson which indicates that they a) enlisted at the same time and b) got up to some fairly serious misdeeds together.

I've been unable to find any surviving service papers, which might have thrown more light on the above, on either of them.

Regards

David

Thank you so much David. The medal does have the 3 clasps mentioned by you. I'm even more intrigued now - I wonder what he did to get court-martialled?
