I came across this extraordinary campaign group to Cpl E Chambers of the RHA.

Photograph reproduced by permission of Bonhams.

The catalogue listed the three medals as:
  • Royal Niger Company's Medal (1) Nigeria 1886-1897, impressed in capitals (Corporal E Chambers. Royal Horse Artillery)
  • East and West Africa 1887-1900 (1) Niger 1897, renamed (Corp:E.Chambers.R.H.A.)
  • QSA (3) Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Driefontein (73316 Cpl E.Chambers, R.H.A.)

While the medals came in a contemporary fitted case the only other note was that the first medal had been verified. A renamed E&W Africa could indicate no entitlement but nothing for the QSA either?

The QSA is verified on WO100/149p36 but this is in individual claims so easy to miss?

The purchaser seems to have had no qualms about the trio and paid £4,465 including premium. It is a spectacular group.

Best wishes
David
