As I have been working through the Important Decision Book, the QSA has always been referred to as the Queen's South Africa Medal or Queen's SA Medal. For the first time today I saw a reference to the Q.S.A. This reference is dated, I think, from 1913.

I wondered when the first documented use of the abbreviation 'QSA' occurred?

That is something that I have never even thought about, I've just taken it for granted I suppose, as far as the British army goes, it was normally refered to as the "Queens S A medal and clasp/clasps for" etc as far as I can see, when looking at papers in WO97.
