We have the 303 Lee Metford my grand dad as a member of Ermelo kommando took off a Britsh soldier during the Boer War. Is there a way to detremine to whom in the British Forces the rifle belonged. maybe there is a record of rifle no's issued???

Sometimes the unit is able to be worked out by stock or other markings. The few LM's seen usually have some form of unit marking; not so the MLE. The LM carbine I once had featured a butt disc with "5L" punched into it; meaning 5th Lancers. We need more info. Any unit marking would NOT be in samll letters - like a factory inspection mark or similar.
