I am researching the records of my two grandfathers with respect to their war records. I will be in London from August 14-22 inclusive to visit the Archives, Chelsea Hospital and Firepower Museum as part of this search. I need some assistance before I arrive to identify the records I need in order to maximize my time in London.
Specifically I am looking for:
Boer War records for Gnr. Harmon H Dyson, RHA Q Battery Reg #30596, including POW records in 1900, 2 desertions at Woolrich, trial records, convictions and pardons in 1910, as well as medical records at Chelsea Hospital following wounds at Sannas Post in SA.
WWI records for Harmon H Dyson, Labour Corp, Reg #901844
Anglo-India and Boer War records for Cpl Whlr George E Ricketts, RFA (2 8th Battery) Reg #83787
With respect to Harmon Dyson, I am also looking for travel records to Canada on HMS Sardinia in 1895 (return to UK unknown) and travel records to Canada in 1903 and return 1908. Dyson's travel to Canada in 1895 and 1903 are secondary concerns, but still interesting, especially to my uncle (Dyson's last remaining child) who will be with me on this trip to the Mother Country. (The 1895 trip could help explain how a Cockney from Bow knew the front of a horse from the rear.)
I will also look for after-action reports and other documents related to the Sannas Post battle which won four VCs. These should include documents on the battle and the VC communications between Lord Roberts and WO.
