I have some WW1 service papers that state that the person I am researching served with the FF Canteen ASC from Dec 1900 to Feb 1902, during the Boer War. Can anyone tell me anything about this unit or where I might find further information.
Thanks

abbrover,

It might be easier to go the other way and work from the man's name?

Kind regards
David

His name was Wilfrid E Rose. He served with the Colonial Scouts from Dec 1899 to May 1900, the Imperial Hospital Corps from June 1900 to Nov 1900 and then FF Canteen ASC from Dec 1900 to Feb 1902. A very varied career!
Thanks

Varied indeed. I will see what the roll says about the ACS service, Judith.

Judith,

If his number is 14631 and rank is driver, then his QSA was issued off the 7th Co ASC roll with clasps Joh, DH, Witt and CC (WO100/213p60). He was also issued with a KSA off the roll for the 6th Co. (WO100/350p44).

The KSA roll says he arrived in SA on 14 Jan 00 and left for England 19 Feb 03 so this may not be your man.

I will keep looking.

Regards
David

Judith,

The IHC roll (WO100/249p96) shows Orderly W E Roll as being discharged 21 Apr 00.

The Colonial Scouts roll (WO100/242/191) confirms his link to the IHC and entitlement to clasp RoL.

I am not seeing him in the ASC roll. Do you have his number?

With thanks
David
