Hi all

I think it must be me and I hope I have put this in an appropriate place, but there is a medal on the market, a single QSA, single bar Relief of Ladysmith, to 4746 Sgt W Harrington, KIA Spion Kop. Confirmed in the NFF casualty roll and all of the usual sites and on the memorial. Can I find his medal roll, no!

Also, this regiment is not mentioned in the Red Roses on the Veldt, so I am assuming it was not a Lancashire Regiment?

Doug.

Hi Doug,

Just had a look on Ancestry and like you unable to find him on the medal roll?
Confirmed on the NFF as you say, bit of a mystery.

Cheers
Paul :)

Paul

Thanks for that. I did ask the dealer about this, but there was no reply. Here are some pictures:

Hello Doug

He appears on WO100/168/68 - Ancestry is missing this page and the names from it

The Register is up to date. :)

Doug

Perhaps the regiment is listed as the 'King's Own Royal (Lancaster) Regiment in 'Red Roses in the Veldt'. The Royal Lancaster Regiment suffered heavy casualties in the Spioenkop battle and their mass grave and memorial on this hill are shown below.

Brett
