Again, thanks for your perspectives in regards to Packhams` service. As he was in a Vol Bn/Militia before 1900, it is very possible he was learning his military skills part time, so any previous overseas service resulting in other medals awarded would seem slim to nil. As you say, a check of WO 97 would confirm this or bring to light other unknown service. I`m thinking that further medal lists are most likely not there, in his case.
Am most pleased to have further information on this man. It certainly helps to expand my knowledge of Packhams` long service career.
Cheers,
John S

Hello John,
The Militia were not called upon to fight on campaign overseas, whilst the Navy was quite large, the Army was quite small, but, it was big enough to hold the empire together, so the Militia were not called upon, they were a corps that existed to defend the country and assist the civil power if needed.
Volunteers within it did fight on campaign before the Anglo Boer War, on occassion, in Egypt, for example, but, it was really in South Africa when they made a name for themselves.
So his service in the Militia would not result in any campaign medals before the war, a brief look at WO100 does tend to confirm this and almost all surviving papers are in WO96 at Kew.

Again, Thanks for this.
So if my man obtained any further medals during his British service time, it might have happened post ABW, depending on how long he served in the Queens after 1901, and depending if the Queens may have been involved in a colonial "dustup", before he left the UK to settle in Canada. I still have to find out exactly when my man came to Canada, which would narrow down a time frame, but might you or any others be aware of where the Queens might have been posted from 1901 to 1914??
Thanks!
John S

Hello John,
Sadly, no "dustup" in Croydon, so no medals.
