This is a more full account of the display of the vehicle at Crystal Palace in 1902.

I wonder how effective that battering ram would been in practice?

The War-Car might have been useful in scaring Boer horses, if it could get close enough, but it would otherwise have been notable for breaking down and/or getting stuck in the veld, which in 1899-1902 was not noted for its paved road network.

What the Army in SA did was to create armoured wagons - "Steel lined blockhouse on wheels" in 1902.

The RE "has some admirable specimen wagons, 3/8 inch steel, entered by a trap-door from the bottom, and now the only thing is to persuade column commanders to take them"

Ref: Lord Roberts and the South African War 1899-1902, Army Records Society 2000 p236 - letter from Lt-Genl Ian Hamilton to Lord Roberts after the convoy lost at Yzer Spruit 25-02-1902.

I would be surprised if these were used - sound like death traps.
