Seeing that the JR anniversary has just passed, I thought the members might enjoy some pics taken from a book titled "Wars of the'Nineties" by A. Hilliard Atteridge, published by Cassell and Co and with an imprint date of 1899. This book would probably be easier to get in UniK than in OZ; my copy was obtained in the late 1960's in "falling apart" condition and I had it rebound about 1974. It's contents do not cover any aspect of the ABW.
The pics were composed in a "dot format" and - together with the slightly yellow tone of the paper - they are as good as I and my little SONY can make them. Apologies for the slightly slanted aspect in a couple - the book would not lie flat.
(1) Smuggling arms into Pretoria

(2) Escorted to Pretoria as prisoners

(3) Jameson's Boer escort outside Pretoria Jail

(4) Last roll call of Jameson's men at Pretoria
In conclusion, I have never seen any of these illustrations used elsewhere.
Regards to all
IL.

Sorry, guys; I forgot to hit "insert" on the "last roll call". Here it is again.

Thanks for sharing that. I love those pictures! I studied in Pretoria and love seeing those parts that are still the same and can't imagine what happened to those that were not.

I am going to search for that book, maybe it is in PDF somewhere, as the only one I found on Abe was expensive! You did well to get it.

Cheers
Ryan

The actual passage about the Raid in the book is far from partisan; indeed quite even-handed. Some of these old books are indeed available on pdf or CD. Some time ago I even managed to get a copy of Creswicke on CD. Really don't know why because I like handling these old books.
Glad you liked the illus and pics.
