I missed the original posting!

I have a copy of the enamelled badge, numbered 7, but I cannot see any markings on the back.

According to the 1999 Doctoral Thesis of H J G Kamffer on the Secret Service of the ZAR (430 pages in Afrikaans),the badge was illustrated in The Nongqai of August 1927 : I would love to know what was said about it at the time. It was worn at the back of the lapel of the jacket.

Many thanks for that very useful information. Well we know that at least a few of these badges survived and that there were at least 46 of these police.

Is you number 7 similar to the photo of the one I posted?

I often wondered if they were worn like that.

Hello Henk,

After you message about the thesis of H J G Kamffer, I did some research and managed to find a copy on the internet. I have just begun to translate it, so I'll let you know if I have any luck in finding information about the Transvaal secret police. It may well take quite a while.

It looks like it's been an overlooked subject apart from the thesis.

Once again, thanks for pointing me in the right direction and I'll let you know of my finding's.
