Hello everyone,

Well I enclose a couple of photo's of 2 badges I picked up a long while ago. I have had some success in researching them and thought that other members would be interested in seeing them.

I'd be very interested to see if any other member have come across the type of badge before or have seen similar themselves.

You know I am still surprised that no one took an interest in these badges. I have never been able to find out anything about these items so they must remain a mystery.

Perhaps, this will spark some interest in these very unusual and I would think quite rare silver badges.

South African Republic Secret Police Warrant badges? if so, they would, I think be really very rare indeed.
They have numbers on the front, anything on the reverse?
I did not see this post as I was not a member of this forum back then.

No, there's nothing on the reverse of the badges, just pin claps on both.
The small of the two is numbered 06, and has nothing on the reverse, a rather crudely made badge.

The larger, which is numbered 46, is a well made badge with an enamelled Transvaal coat of arms. It has a makers name with I can only make partly make out, something Bros, Johannesburg. That's all I'm afraid, but on the whole a couple of very nice and rare badge's indeed.

I bought them many years ago for about £5.00 for the pair, a great find and lots of collecting pleasure I remember.

I don't have a copy of the catalogue to hand but I remember a badge like these in the 1999 Spink centenary auction.

Yes, your exactly right, the very 1st item from the Christie's sale was a secret police badge numbered 1. It was estimated at between £80.00 to £100.00 and finally sold for £150.00 plus their commissions etc.

Were you there at the sale?
