There are frequent references to "ox-trains" or conveys being used by the British army during the Boer War as an alternative to rail transport - which was so often disrupted by the Boers. However, just about every photograph that I have ever seen depicts wagons being hauled, not by oxen, but by mules. My question is, therefore, was "ox-train" used as a generic term for any form of overland transport, and if not, were mule trains used more widely than ox-trains?
