Good Morning Everyone.......

After reading David's write up and information about the pension papers / files PIN 71 I went and looked up my Derby M.I. medal and he Died of Disease before Diamond Hill but it got me thinking...... Other than normal service documents were there any special files made up for people that were Killed in Action / Died of Wounds etc......

Thanks

Hi Mike

Frustratingly the WO 97 papers of men who died on service in the Boer War era were weeded out and systematically destroyed in (I believe) the 1920s.

A very small percentage escaped the cull, most commonly a proportion of men who died on service with the Royal Artillery. I have 8 QSAs to fatal casualties in the Royal Artillery and found the papers on 6 of them in the WO 97 series. I also found the file of a fatal casualty of the Dorsets in the burnt records on Ancestry. They shouldn't have been there but the fact that they are means that they missed the cull. There must surely be more but they'll be few and far between. (I know Paul has a QSA to a fatal casualty in the Leicesters whose papers are also in the burnt records).

Regards

David
