Louis Kurz (1835-1921) was a Chicago-based lithographer and Civil War veteran who produced some fine images of the Boer War.

Pictures courtesy of the Anne S K Brown Military Collection.

7 illustrations of battle scenes (Theremopylae, Elandslaagte, Colenso, Spion Kop, Morgarten, Magersfontein, Concentration camp), 4 portraits of 6 Boer leaders (Kruger, De La Rey, Botha, Steijn, De Wet and Villebois-Mareuil), small oval profile of Queen Wilhelmina and 2 allegorical figures flanking a printed poem.

I was reading his biography where its stated that Kurz, very much like Sutherland, "did not pretend to mirror the actual events but rather attempted to tap people's patriotic emotions".

I still cannot work out why the two pictures in the top right do not relate the Boers. Why Themopylae and Morgarten?
