Very nice indeed, Pieter Cronje or the "circus general" as he became known spent a great deal of time re enacting Paardeberg, had he put the same amount of effort into the defence of Bloemfontein, he might well have not been subsequently hated by his own people, sadly, he chose not to.

After the 1904 World's Fair at St Louis the Boer War Spectacle ran in New York during the summer of 1905. It is still considered to be one of the greatest, if not thé greatest staged spectacle ever at Coney Island, and was performed on a patch of swampland between Manhattan Beach and Brighton Beach.
In July 1905 the members of the Boer War Spectacle presented Col Frank Fillis with a massive (but rather garish and kitsch) 14kt gold memento. It measures 160 x 80mm and weighs 97 gm.
It would be interesting to know what it cost the donors at the time!
