I am so pleased that I have the previlage of meeting Emily Hobhouse on her current visit to South Africa and to the War Museum in Bloemfontein. She is a decendant of the Great EMILY HOBHOUSE that did such great humantaniar work during the 2nd Boer War.

Hi All ,
I have been searching for a place to stick up this post but was not quite sure where ?
Perhaps this is the correct place ? Although the post covers quite a few different but related areas of interest

1.) There is a new book out about the original Emily Hobhouse
"The Compassionate Englishwoman Emily Hobhouse in the Boer War"
Author Robert Eales

www.roberteales.com.au/hobhouse_6.html

I was wondering if anyone here had read / reviewed the book ?

2.) In connection with the camps there is a publication by an A.H. Crosfield -- "The True causes of and the false excuses for the war in South Africa"
I have found copies in two places in South Africa -- National Library of South Africa & Stellenbosch University Library and Information Services
The publication appears to be a "pamphlet" produced by the Manchester National Reform Union.
After some Googling it would appear that the same Arthur Crosfield ( prospective liberal candidate for Warrington [Cheshire] sent some letters to Churchill ?

As Crosfield and his pamphlet are often quoted I would like to know more about A.H. Crosfield / the Manchester National Reform Union and what their interest in the ABW was ?
and
How accurate / objective his work ( agitation ) was

Most grateful to anyone that can shed light on these questions.

Dear Emily

This Bible was in my Mom's Stepmother's family. Unfortunately I don't have the history. This Bible was given to my mom and now to me.

The Bible belonged to your Great Aunt Emily Hobhouse. She gave the Bible to her God daughter, Johanna Emily Malan. After that the Bible was given to Marolyn Malan by her Grandmother H.S Malan as a Christening gift.

This Bible is a part of history not to be forgotted and to be treasured.

I searched the internet for the Malan family names as noted on the page but no success.

I want to give this Bible to the right place or person who will hold it dear and cherish it.

Please let me know if the photo is clear enough. If not I will email to you.

What do you suggest?

Looking forward to your reply.

Kind regards
