Just checked the War and Son website and the price is £1,395 or R24,700.

Colonel Plumer's batman was entitled to the Relief of Mafeking clasp - highly unusual to a British Army unit recipient: Queen South Africa Medal with Rhodesia, Relief of Mafeking, Orange Free State and Transvaal clasps to 4407 Pte. W. Bedford, 1st Yk. & Lancs. Regt.; King's South Africa Medal with South Africa 1901 & 1902 clasps to 4407 Pte. W. Bedford, Rhodesia Regt.

It is interesting that William Bedford's regimental number is the same for the Y&L Regiment and the Rhodesia Regiment.

I can only see one KSA roll page for the Rhodesia Regiment (WO100/364p216) and this lists only Pte Walter Bedford. His forename is William on the Rhodesia Regiment QSA roll.

A unique KSA to the Rhodesia Regiment?

Thanks David - Bedford's pair was up for auction recently and there was quite a rumpus with the auction house initially splitting the QSA and KSA into separate lots. Sanity prevailed in the end but by that time the pair was no longer a "sleeper" which ruled me out.

Bedford was only ever attached to the Rhodesia Rgt - hence the same service numbers. His papers are on FmP.

War & Son have reduced the price by £100, looks like they bought it at auction and by the lack of a sale overpaid. My heart bleeds.
