On a side note - aren't colours usually hung up in the battalion's home church until they disintegrate, after their active life comes to an end?

That gun is a .303" Maxim of the type adopted by the British army in 1891. A lot of polished brass on it! The tripod looks to be that of the later .303" Vickers gun. During the ABW, the Maxim was used mounted on a tripod; or else on a wheeled mount (Galloping Maxims). Particularly favoured was the wheeled, light steel "Dundonald" carriage.

The Colours for the PPCLI, Cal. High., KOCR and some of the Straths. are in their regimental galleries located in the museums here in Calgary...

Yes, the scale model has the correct tripod. Those scale models are beautiful pieces of work. Over the years I have seen a couple of scale model Maxim and Vickers MMGs and would love to get my hands on one; Maxim or Vickers. A Rifle Association of which IL was once a member had an example in a glass case (the model was about nine or ten inches long). However, it vanished during a change of venue.

Sadly, that is so often the case, a great shame, in my opinion, they really are beautiful things that deserve preservation.
