The're BACK!!!
For those who thought IL had run out of group photographs from his trusty Creswicke Vol. 7 - here are a couple more. A pity that - apart from their OC - none of the other officers and NCOs of 2nd RPR are named. Regarding the other pic, IL cannot find a "Thornton's Horse" in BBM 7th edition. Perhaps they were an offshoot of the Uitenhage TG?

Regards
IL.

Thornton's Horse was actually a particular Squadron, from memory, at least, commanded by Major Collett of the 2nd Division, Cape Colonial Force and raised for the campaign.

Found this article which references Thornton of Thornton's Horse - the last sentence especially applies

Hello Rory,
Thornton's Horse was actually U Squadron of the 2nd Division, Cape Colonial Force, it was commanded by Major Collett with it's rank and file being drawn from the Uitenage DMT and TG.
The medals earned by these men, that were actually issued for service with "Thornton's Horse" were simply named CCF, Thornton himself, did not serve in the Squadron, being an officer in the Uitenage Volunteer Rifles, in actual fact, the Squadron was also known as "Collett's Squadron" which, to me, at least, seems more appropriate under the circumstances.
Regards Frank
