I thought readers might like to see a photo of the above - I unfortunately can't provide more information other than that this was a Squadron of men of the Protectorate Regiment at the time of the Siege of Mafeking

What a great picture.

The PRFF had 425 men in Mafeking. These comprised around 100 men per squadron A to D.

This picture represents about half a squadron.

Nice Rory,

Do you have any more good photo's of the Siege.

I am researching a chap who's diary we picked up and is un published. In it "Bob" makes mention of a group photo taken outside the Julies Weil Company Store.

"Bob" worked for the Julies Weil Company and he mentions that he was in a group photo outside of Weil’s Store with rifles and bandoliers, also said he was wearing Khaki. I would very impressed if you came up with a named photo. He makes mention that he was a part time member of the TG.

As Bob is short for (Robert) I am trying to narrow him down to a few chaps. The diary makes mention of a friend of his in London and gives addresses etc. so it might be possible to ID him. I have looked at the TG roll and the roll to Julies Weil Transport but it doesn't help much.

A nice little challenge.

Hi Adrian

Bob is normally short for Robert - Dick is short for Richard.

I'll keep my eyes open - the photo I submitted above is apparently a portion of "D" Squadron.

Regards

Rory
