The memorial was removed by the local council in 1943, the parts being later thrown away.

I've found the local press report of the unveiling - no mention of any inscribed names, but I got this nice drawing from it. There are also a few postcards in existence. Surely there must be more than one photograph of it, from between 1902 and 1943?

I think it had to do with road widening, the memorial was dismantled and never erected. When I visited Ashington many years ago I was told some of the stone ended up making a rockery.
