Not a war death, but a war-related one. Perhaps a heart attack?

DEATH FROM EXCITEMENT.
Chief Gunnery Instructor Richard Marks, H.M.S. Australia, on Monday received news that he was ordered to the St. George, which goes to the Cape as one of the flying squadron. The news excited him so much that he fell down and died while being conveyed to Netley Hospital.

Worcestershire Chronicle, 4.11.1899
