I've recently found that during the war The Examiner's staff paid for two marble memorial tablets, to the memory of two former employees - George L. Ellis, Thorneycroft's Mounted Infantry, died 2nd February, 1900, and Lance Corporal E. R. Jacson, Tasmanian Bushmen, died on August 22, 1900 - and they were put up in the office at Launceston. Other than the original press reports there doesn't seem to be any record of either of them, so I contacted The Examiner a few weeks ago, enquiring as to whether they still had the memorials. No response as yet.

If I don't hear back from the paper, can anyone suggest who in Launceston or Tasmania might be interested in pursuing this?

Perhaps you might like to PM forum contributor Stephen Bayley; who resides in Hobart but may have contacts up North?
Best regards
