Order #4. Discharges
Soldiers who were retained for an extra years service in consequence of the Queen's proclamation are entitled to their discharge by the time that the extra year is complete and local arrangments will be made for passage to England for men in their 13th or 22nd year of service; at such a time as will allow of their year or service, from the date of sttestation in the service. The men should be sent in batches monthly or otherwise as may be convenient and ordinary packets should be utilised in the absence of public opportunities (Authority War Office Letter No. 120, Gen. No. 5808 dated 21st July 1900). With reference to the above, the returns should be rendered to the G. O. C., L. O. C., Newcastle, monthly on the 1st of each month, showing men whose service would expire before the end of the following month. These men should be sent as soon as the return is sent to the General Depot, Maritzburg, there to await passage which will be requisitioned for by Commandant, Maritzburg. L. O. C. Orders 317 (2.
