I came across this King's College website:
kingscollections.org/servingsoldier/cate...d-boer-war-1899-1902

In the album labelled as  "A Volunteer In The Boer War (Part 4): Craig, G" there are photographs of a pile of possibly Mauser Rifles, but also several labelled as men with beards in civilian clothing, but they actually include General Christiaan De Wet in photographs I have never seen before, together with others I do not recognise.

I wondered if anyone recognised other people or perhaps this event?

What a marvellous collection of photos.

In the text this ship is referred to as the Wakooli. It is actually the Wakool - below as was posted on the Forum by Dunnboer in 2013. I think you can work out exactly where they were sitting when the photo was taken. The Wakool gets quite a few mentions in other posts and 35 mentions in the shipping records.

Certainly some unusual photos in that collection. The man on the right in this one bears some resemblance to General Barry Hertzog.

The middle one looks like Christiaan De Wet.

Yes, that's certainly De Wet and there's one where he is sitting down and you can tell from his posture, which almost mirrors the image we see on cigarette cards and postcards.

I wonder what he was doing with the British on that day. I'm not sure whether the stack of rifles was photographed on the same day in the same place.

Interesting photos.
