In 7 Div, 14 Brigade provided a company from each of its four battalion to form 7 Mounted Infantry.

Did 15 Brigade form a MI unit?

Were Volunteer Service Companies attached only to battalions providing one of their own to the MI or were there some nine company battalions?

Winrow's thesis had the answers. 15 Brigade contibuted men to form 8 MI. That also answers my question about replacement volunteer companies, at least so far as 7 Div goes.
