From the BMF Forum......

Henk Loots who went by the BMF name of QSAKSA has passed away at his home in South Africa. Henk was for many years the doyen of South African medal collecting.

It has been some time since he last visited the forum, he was in his late 80s.

R.I.P. Henk.

Regards
Askari

Rest in Peace Henk we have had a number of meetings in writing before the internet and since.....

Thankyou for your help.....

Sorry to hear that. Henk had a tremendous knowledge of SA medals and clearly had a good eye for outstanding items.
Regards to his memory.

RIP Henk.

I recall several email conversations with this gentleman who gladly shared his knowledge with me.

That is very sad news.

Henk was such a knowledgeable person and shared his expertise so freely with us all. He would post pictures in the early days of the forum of items that were just fantastic to see and always had a story behind them.

I will very much miss him.

I have known Henk for many years, and it is indeed sad that he has passed away. His interests in the history were wide and varied and as a result he had a wonderful collection, representing significant themes such as his Boer War casualties, of which I am fortunate to own a few now.

As some have mentioned he was always open to providing information and remember a call out of the blue many years ago now, that he had found a copy of Lionel Cohen's biography for me. As a young collector it blew me away that one of the foremost South African collectors would reach out like this.

His wife, Andre and wider family are in our prayers!
Regards

Gavin

Sorry to hear about this. We never met in person, but we spoke on the phone from time to time, particularly when he was the editor of the Military Medal Society of SA's journal (which he was from 1985 to 2001). He was certainly a very prominent figure in the medal collecting and military history world.
Regards
Arthur
