Hi,
I'm trying to find out how/what Hospital Ship my Great-Uncle Gunner John Charles Maddock (Army number: 5544) would have got back on from South Africa during the 2nd Boer War? I'm stuck at this point!!!! I enclose a copy of his Army Papers with a date on! & I'm trying to match it to a Hospital ship for him? can any kind person help me out put me out of my Misery in helping me find the answer to the above Please!
I've tried to add a attacment to this "Help Me" but it won't Attach to this message? so if you can help I can email the Attachment to you!! as the date may be for June or July 1900!

On his John Maddock’s Attestation Papers it states that:
SOUTH AFRICA 11th Jan 1900 till 11th July (then)
HOME 12th JULY 1900................

By the above Infomation can it be worked out by what Hospital Ship & what day he left South Africa?
Is it possible to find out what hospital in South Africa & the UK he was in?
He was sent HOME as a INVALID. Don't know what he was Invalided Home for. But
they say in the family he used to have a large lump on the side of his face?
it may have came from his time in South Africa??
So I hope somebody can help me out please??

Thank You!

St Helena,

The attached file was the QSA verification. His service papers, which appear to be available, are much more detailed and will confirm the date he left South Africa and also where he was afterwards. Either some credits on FindMyPast or the user of a researcher at the National Archives would seem to be a good next step.
