Combining the clasp and disc on this broached QSA that is named to Murray's Horse.

That is a very unusual, if not unique method of broaching.

It is also interesting that a 'Relief of Ladysmith' clasp is associated with a Murray's Horse QSA. I have a Murray's Horse QSA with a 'Natal' clasp. I was under the impression that Murray's Horse was disbanded before the start of the qualifying period for the 'Relief of Ladysmith' clasp.

I believe that some men continued to serve under the name 'Murray's Scouts' and that their QSA's are very rare and much sought after.

I find it interesting that they could bend the bar without splitting the metal or compressing the letters together.... Could this have been specially made this way?

Brett - I haven't researched the recipient. His name is E S Carlisle. I will check the medal rolls and see what they say.

Mike - I'll attach a picture of the obverse of the medal. It looks like it is an original clasp face but how they managed to bend it without stretching or cracking it is beyond me.
