Mike,

That's a lovely cup and looks to be in excellent condition too. I take it you don't use it for your afternoon tea too often??

Its interesting to note that the relief of Kimberley is given as 18th Feb 1900.

Many thanks
David

Mike,

I had a look on-line for examples of these cups and found quite a few that had been sold at auction. Reading the catalogue descriptions, they provide information on the cup being auctioned but nowhere can I find information on the numbers issued.

Where did your number come from?

Regards
David

Hi David.....

The number came from an article that I read on Copeland commemorative items in a magazine about china collectables..... They had a picture of one with a number on the base but mine does not..... There is a photo and mention in Oosthuizen book but no mention of numbers there..... I have filed away somewhere the original article and will have to look for it......

It is the same with a large Coalport, Roberts, Blue Transfer Printed plate, some have gold rims, some are plain, some have numbers, some do not......

Hi
I Purchased a cup exactly like the one you two gentlemen are speaking of. Mine does seem to have a number of some sort on the bottom in red lettering and an engraved symbol and number as well, The red lettering seems to say E/299 or E1299 and a small x under it in red. The engraving I will need a microscope!

Any idea of the value? Thanks Ashley

Hello Ashley.....

The number you see is the Copeland design/pattern number..... Mine is the same.....

There have been 6 sold on ebay over the past 12 years..... The lowest price being $300.00 and the highest just over $3100.00 (this one was a limited numbered edition of 25 presented by H.M. the Queen as Christmas gifts, not included in the average) the higest for a normal one was $1,050.00..... The average value is $671.50 from the records I have kept....
