I recently purchased a 18ct gold diamond brooch from an auction. It came in its original little box and folded up inside the lid is a letter dated 8th sept 1901. Hand written.

I'm trying to trace where it came from. There is a list of 7 seven sisters that clubbed together to buy this brooch for a Sergeant James Little's daughter as a token of appreciation and a momento of the boar. The brooch came from a jewellers in Bloemfontein.

I think the "sisters" are nurses, although they could be nuns. I keep coming up against a brick wall.

Can any body help with my search?

Janeanward,

That sounds an intriguing purchase.

I had a look at the rolls for the Boer War and there are quite a few J Little (over 100). Not all of these would have the rank of Sergeant so it may be possible to narrow this down a little.

There was certainly a hospital in Bloemfontein at the time and possibly also a nunnery. Do you have the names of the sisters as we may be able to identify them.
