Good Evening Everyone.....

I have noticed that on several ebay items listed as Challange Coins there is a mention that history of these date back to use during the Boer War.....

I have not heard of these being used during the Boer War but only from the period of Viet Nam and later......

I know that they have been used here since the 1970's......

Has anyone heard of these being used?????

Any military or ex-military member I am sure has heard of these coins......

Morning Mike,

I had heard mention of these but thought they started in the Great War rather than the Boer War?

Were they also more of a US tradition?

Regards
David

Good Morning Everyone......

I have been contacted by a writer who is trying to write a book on The Challenge Coin.....

So therefor I thought I would bring this subject up again just in case someone has new information.....

I told the writer that I have never heard of the coins during the Boer War but he came back to me with the story that soldiers would take ordinary silver coins and remove the tail's side and engrave their regimental crest and name......

I told him that I have heard of that but with Girlfriends names etc, as I have a few but it was known as Trench Art (modern name)but none with Regimental Crests.......

Your opinion.....

Mike,

I think you friend posted in the forum recently. However, believing his posy be spam, I banned the account and stopped him from posting further.

I will see if I can undo that action.
