Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen.....

Does anyone know the name of the ship that transported Lord Roberts and his Staff to South Africa....

I remember seeing a photo and description of him boarding the ship but I will be damn'd if I can find it now.....

Mike,

The Dunottar Castle?

There are a few pictures of Roberts' departure and even some surviving video. Here's one such picture from The Graphic.

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen.......

The reason that I asked the ships name is that I have found the following here in a Garage Sale.....

The oil painting has the following written on the back but the ships name is very hard to read as it is written in pencil on black:

"SS DUNVEGAN CASTLE, TOOK LORD ROBERTS TO SOUTH AFRICA TO FIGHT THE BOER WAR"

"PAINTED BY A. BOOTE, CHIEF STEWARD"

There is also a rubber stamp: "H. Phillinger, U.S. Immigration, Boston, 1906"

Along with the painting there were a couple of photos of Boote and his Wife.

Thought you might enjoy.....

Mike

Sorry again having problems posting photos.......

Mike,

That sounds an excellent find!

Re the photos, they are attached to the post. To display them in the post, try placing your cursor where they need to appear and then clicking in insert. That should do the trick.

Best wishes
David
