Good Morning Gentlemen......

There are a number of pay sites that say that they can show you Boer War and World War One documents......

In your opinion and at your suggestion which do you think is the best for your money??????

I have to say that I really don't like any of them, the problem is with digitisation, once done so often the original material is spirited away, never to be seen again. :(
The quality is often very poor and certainly at Kew and my own county library it then becomes all PC's, often, the sometimes superior, micro film is replaced by the digital image.
It has all taught me that being able to see and handle original material is so much better. :)
Many years ago now, I saw, read and handled documents that had been signed by Major John Maximillian Vallentin, the District Commissioner of Heidelberg and officer commanding it's burgher volunteer corps, I ran my forefinger over the reverse of his signature and felt the impression in the vellum! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Also, I should add, that my one really big regret in collecting was not buying Vallentin's medals when I had the chance, some years ago now, he was always, as a boy and remains today, a real hero of mine! :)

Hello Mike,
Good question.
I have a subscription to both Find My Past and Ancestry which have both been invaluable for research.
Whenever I am at a medal fair it is nice to look online for service docs and to check the medal rolls.
If I had the choice of only one I would choose Find My Past but that is just a personal preference.

Paul :)
