It is good to know that you have a flexible view on the limits of your site's content. I think the Boer War was the BIG war in southern Africa that had links with many people and places both before and after it.

This reminds me that I think all who visit the site owe you our renewed thanks for all your efforts that so enrich our lives.

Regards
Brett

Hello Paul,
A wonderful find, Rhodes and his companies have always fascinated me and I think the BSA Co medal in all it's forms is one of the most attractive ever minted, Rhodes himself went to quite a lot of trouble to get this medal issued and many of the exchanges between the Colonial Office and Rhodes exist to this day at Kew.
The 1890 medal without additional clasp/clasps does not interest me as much as the 1893 and 1896 reverse's, the latter was often earned the hard way, some very brutal sharp fighting took place, as was the case with the 1897 clasp, the 1897 medal is really very rare indeed when you start number cruching.
Have you got an example of a BSA Co medal yet? actually, I think they are all getting quite hard to find now, I went to the OMRS North last year and I think I counted two examples in the room! :(
Kind regards Frank

Hello Frank,
And thank you for your comments.
I agree a very asthetic looking medal although I have not seen one in the flesh, so no example in my collection.
Yes I had a look in the Medal Year Book the 1897 is quite a rarity.
Need to have a good read of this book because it is beginning to sounds very interesting will post more info when possible.

Paul :)

Paul,

I am pleased you bought it as otherwise it would have passed me and possibly some other members by.

With thanks
David

David,
I was ignorant of this campaign but reading through the book I see a lot of references to the forthcoming war.
I will add more content when I get the chance.

Paul :)
