The "certain Natal Police group" referred to by Brian should really be in my collection, where it would be with friends. I even have the papers to go with it. Its appearance at the Fair was the third time it has emerged from the woodwork during the last couple of months. If it appears for a fourth time, it will be a sign and I will tell my wife to get a second job, "borrow" money from her and buy it.

Brett,

I think the universe is sending you a message? Caesar declined three times too but even he gave in eventually.

Best wishes

Since I have been accused of having a strange sense of humour (amongst other character defects), I must explain that my wife is actually a very kind, tolerant and understanding person. (She needs to be!) In fact, she offered to buy me the Natal Police group at the Medal Fair. In view of my recent extravagance on the City Coins auction, I regretfully declined.

Hello Gents

I have to agree with most, there was not many medals for sale, but like I said in my earlier post, this is mainly a coin fair and we incorporated medals in the last few years. In reality, there are only two known medal dealers in South Africa.... Well three, if we add Mike Rowan... City Coins and Kaplans are mainly auction houses. DNW's presence at the show, is mainly to consign items for their auctions and to promote DNW both for coins and medals. We hosted a dinner on Saturday night and Chris Webb sat next to me, I did ask him about bringing items for sale to the show. This will be looked at for furure.

The Police Medal exhibit by a local member of our society, Robert Suberg actually won best exhibit for the day. So it just goes to show, even at a coin show, medals outshone coins..... I must say it was really well presented.

I am always looking at ways to improve the show and will take in any suggestions to improve..

Best Wishes

Hi Anthony

Well done to Robert I am sure he was very chuffed, yes, he had a nice "accross the board" collection on display.

I know you are a Coin person by heart and the vast majority of people there were coin people, however, the few medals on display drew a lot of attention from the passers by. With their colourful ribbons and history behind them they do make a great talking point.

Thanks for putting the show together, it was well presented and maybe next year there will be more for the medal/militaria collector?

Regards
Brian
